Falsterbo – one of northern Europe’s primary bird migration centres
The Falsterbo peninsula south west of Malmö is one of the most important bird migration routes in northern Europe. Around 500 million birds pass this spot on their way to spend winter in Africa. Every autumn, the area around Falsterbo Lighthouse attracts thousands of birdwatchers, with 359 species passing through.

Red Kite – the county symbol of Skåne

Spot the majestic sea eagle and the impressive golden eagle. Other species here are spotted eagle, imperial eagle and the steppe eagle. Head for Vattenriket (Kingdom of Water) in Kristianstad to watch these birds.
This Vattenriket nature reserve is a UNESCO designated biosphere reserve. Go on an eagle safari or take a boat ride. Watch sea eagles and golden eagles in the Fyledalen nature reserve between Sjöbo and Tomelilla.
The dance of the cranes – an unforgettable performance
Every spring, thousands of cranes land by the lakes of Skåne to perform their fascinating mating ritual.
Experience their breathtaking performance at Lake Pulken. Most cranes arrive around late March. Take a guided tour or visit a viewing area set up with binoculars. Watch them perform here.
